Stags Host Senior Day on Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will honor their three-member senior class as Samantha Cooper, Macey Hollenshead, and Kristen McLaughlin will take the court at Alumni Hall for the final time as teammates against Iona. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm on Facebook Live with the pregame ceremony starting at 1:45pm.

With Sunday being the regular season finale, the Stags have an idea of their immediate future in the upcoming Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. The Stags have clinched a first-round bye and will be either the No. 4 or the No. 5 seed in the tournament. A Fairfield win would guarantee the Stags the No. 4 seed while a loss will drop them to five.

The Stags are coming off a 73-65 setback at Monmouth on Friday. The difference of the game was Monmouth's shooting from the outside, as the Hawks hit 10 3-pointers and shot 59 percent from behind the arc. Fairfield had led for most of the first half and went into the locker room with a one-point lead. It was just the second time in nine outings where Fairfield did not win a game after leading at half.

Casey Foley led the team with 15 points and had a very efficient shooting night (5-for-7 FG). Foley was also the star on the defensive end as she recorded a career-high eight steals, the most by a Stag since November 25, 2001 when Marybeth Chartier accomplished the feat against Quinnipiac.

Cooper grabbed seven rebounds, bringing her career total to 977, the fifth most in program history. Her 1,269 career point total places her 16th on the programs all-time list.

The Gaels have gone 1-3 since the last time the two teams faced each other, a 78-68 Stags victory at Iona on February 8.  The 78 points was tied for the third most the Gaels have allowed this season, as they surrendered 78 points to Fordham and a season-high 90 against Quinnipiac.

Offensively, Alexis Lewis, Toyoshi Abiola, and Treyanna Clay are the team's three biggest scoring options as the trio has accounted for 67 percent of the team's scoring. Abiola has won nine MAAC Rookie of the Week awards this season and is second on the team averaging 11.9 points per game.

Fairfield will next play Rider or Manhattan in the MAAC Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y., on Saturday at 2:30pm
