Stags Host Play4Kay on Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will host their annual Play4Kay contest on Saturday evening against Siena on the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall. The Stags will be selling pink T-shirts and taking donations with all proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to help raise awareness for breast cancer. All the action between the Stags and the Saints will be streamed on Facebook Live at 5pm.

Along with the evening promotions, the Stags have also been involved in the Play4Kay National Free Throw Challenge. Participating Play4Kay schools compete to see who can raise the most money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund through donations tied to the team's free throws made in February. Fans can continue to pledge throughout the entire month and the leaderboard will automatically updated with the fans pledge and the team's free throws. Click here to make a pledge per free throw made by the Stags (or make a one-time donation).

The Stags are coming off a 48-34 setback against Marist, a game where they set a season-low for points scored in a game. Fairfield's defense kept the Stags in the game and gave Fairfield an opportunity to overtake the Red Foxes. However, the Stags could not take advantage of a first half where they limited Marist to 23 points, including just two field goals during the second quarter.

Redshirt senior Samantha Cooper tallied her conference-leading 13th double-double of the season, a number that ranks 14th nationally. Her 13 double-doubles is the most by a Stag since Katie Cizynski also reached that number in the 2013-14 season. Before that, Stephanie Geehan tallied 19 double-doubles during her senior season in 2009-10.

Cooper's 11 points brought her career total to 1216, which places her 17th on the program's all-time scoring list. Cooper is 46 points away from passing Katelyn Linney (2009-13) who is next on the list. Cooper ranks third among scorers during the Joe Frager era, slated behind Desiree Pina (1343 points) and Linney.

A five-game winning streak, which included a victory over Marist, propelled the Saints into third place in the MAAC as they hold a 9-6 record in the conference. Siena is a team that has not only caught momentum but have found ways to win many tight games. Five of their 14 overall wins have come in overtime, most recently the Saints were victorious 56-54 at Manhattan in extra time.

The Saints are led in scoring and rebounding by Kollyns Scarbrough, who averages 16.1 points per game which is good for third in the MAAC. While Scarbrough is the only player on the roster to average double figures, Maddie Sims has led the team in scoring in two of their last three games, a stretch where she has reached double figures in each contest.

Fairfield will hit the road for their final road trip of the season when they travel to Saint Peter's on Monday for a 2pm contest.
