Men's Basketball Travels To Boston College Sunday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD,, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will play the middle game of its three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon when it travels north for its match up with Boston College. The game will be played at Contre Forum beginning at 1 pm.

The Stags are looking to rebound from its 79-69 loss at Old Dominion last weekend,the team's seventh game away from campus this season. Fairfield led with six minutes left in the second half, 61-60, before the Monarchs scored 10 straight points to take control at 70-61 with four minutes remaining. Junior Landon Taliaferro led all Fairfield scorers with 18 points with his points coming off a Fairfield career-best six three-point field goals. It was one of his long-range jumpers that gave the Stags their final lead of the game at 61-60.

The guard received support from senior Jonathan Kasibabu and freshman Felix Lemetti. Kasibabu registered his second straight double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds with that rebounding total tying his career high. The forward endured foul trouble in the second half which limited his minutes to just 12 over the game's final 20 minutes. Lemetti served as another outside shooting threat, netting three three-point field goals in four attempts to finish with nine points. Taliaferro and Neftali Alvarez are tied for the team scoring lead, both tossing in 14.3 points per game. Kasibabu leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game and with eight blocked shots.

The Eagles improved to 7-2 overall with its 82-73 win over Columbia University at Conte Forum Wednesday night. Ky Bowman played a big role in the team's win over the Lions, picking up a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. The guard also dished off five assists in his 40 minutes of work. Nik Popovic came off the bench to record a double-double of his own with 22 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Boston College trailed by a point early in the game but put together a 15-4 run that opened up a 19-11 advantage with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

Columbia closed out the game with a 7-1 run that would send the teams into the locker room with six points separating them as the Eagles enjoyed a 38-32 lead at intermission. The Lions started the second half by registering the first eight points which sent Columbia in front of Boston College, 40-38. Boston College responded with seven straight points to take the lead for good. Bowman averages a team-leading 19.7 points per game, one of four Eagle double-digit scorers. Steffon Mitchell serves as the team's top rebounder with 9.2 per game.

Boston College leads the all-time series with 26 wins in the 37 meetings. Fairfield has won two of the last three regular-season meetings including a victory in the last meeting, an 89-83 win at Mohegan Sun Arena on December 21, 2016. Tyler Nelson and Curtis Cobb paced the Stags' offense with 20 points each as Fairfield built a 10-point halftime lead and ended up with the six-point victory. Ky Bowman led all scorers in the game with 33 points in addition to his eight rebounds and five assists, both team highs.
