ST. JOHNS, ANTIGUA – During the weekend of November 8 to November 11 senior swimmer
Oreoluwa Cherebin traveled to Antigua to compete in the 28th OECS Swimming Championships for her home country of Grenada. In the Girls 18 & Over age group, Cherebin won ten gold medals and a silver medal and finished with a total of 97 points leading the Grenada National Swim Team to their fourth championship win in a row.
Cherebin broke four meet records which she had set last year in the 18 & Over age group. The first came in the 50 Meter Breaststroke where she finished in first place with a final time of 34.77 surpassing her record of 35.44. She then won the 100 Meter Breaststroke with a final time of 1:17.87 beating her previous record of 1:18.35. Cherebin took first place in the 50 Meter Freestyle clocking in at 28.30 surpassing her previous time of 28.62. She then broke her record of 1:10.31 in the 100 Meter Butterfly finishing with a time of 1:09.86.
Cherebin took home the gold medal in the 200 Meter Freestyle (2:17.94), 100 Meter Backstroke (1:15.85), 200 Meter Individual Medley (2:39.51), 50 Meter Backstroke (34.27), 50 Meter Butterfly (31.49), 100 Meter Freestyle (1:04.94). She also won a silver medal in the 400 Meter Freestyle with a final time of 4:56.10.
The women's Grenada National Swim Team finished with 28 gold medals, 20 silver medals, and 24 bronze. The men's and women's team finished with a combined total of 131 medals which was the most of all teams. The women finished in first with 756 points and the men finished first with 729 points to give them a combined total of 1,485 points to win the championship. The Antigua Barbuda National Team finished in second, the St. Lucia National Team finished third, and the St. Vincent Swim Team finished in fourth.
