Stags to Open MAAC Championship Play with Manhattan on Thursday

Fairfield begins the postseason on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Lake Buena Vista

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball – the three-time defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Champion – returns to the postseason this week at the 2018 MAAC Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The fourth-seeded Stags begin the three-day tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 12:30 p.m. against ninth-seeded Manhattan.
 
The Matchup
Fairfield (12-15, 11-7 MAAC) swept the home-and-home season series from the Jaspers (5-26, 3-15 MAAC) by a pair of 3-0 decisions. The Stags have won the last nine meetings – a stretch dating back to the MAAC's last trek to Disney in 2014 – to take a 52-9 lead in the all-time series. Head Coach Todd Kress is a combined 13-3 against the Jaspers in his two tenures on the Fairfield sidelines.
 
Postseason Path
Should the Stags advance past the Jaspers on Thursday, they will return to action early on Friday for the quarterfinal round. The winners of those matches moving on to challenge either top-seeded Iona or second-seeded Canisius in Friday evening's semifinals. As the tournament field "re-seeds" after each round, match times and opponents will not be confirmed until the completion the round.
 
The 2018 MAAC Championship Match will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m.
 
MAAC Championship History
After their three-peat from 2015-17, the Stags hold the conference record with 10 MAAC Championships since 1996. The Stags are 37-15 all-time at the MAAC Championship and 11-5 at ESPN Wide World of Sports, including a 4-0 run to the 1998 conference crown.
