LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Fairfield men's tennis began their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate 1-0 today with a dominating 7-0 win over Rider.
The Stags swept Doubles competition starting with a (6-0) win from
Brad Orban and
Jan Parizek in #3 Doubles over Brandon Gildea and Griffin Clark.
Allan Magid and
Tyler Shibles then took down Javier Melendez and Ryan Ciaccio (6-1) in #2 Doubles.
Lewis Edwards and
Jeffrey Rodgers finished the sweep with a (6-2) win over Lysa Payano Almonte and Peter Komosinski in #1 Doubles.
In Singles competition,
Lewis Edwards started off with a win in #3 Singles over Griffin Clark (6-2, 6-2) while
Brad Orban followed defeating Javier Melendez (6-1, 6-2) in #1 Singles.
Tyler Shibles then took down Lysa Payano Almonte (6-1, 6-4) in #2 Singls while
John Hatala finished off Brandon Gildea in #5 Singles (6-2, 6-1).
Jeffrey Rodgers defeated Peter Komosinski in #4 Singles (6-2, 6-3) and
Allan Magid wrapped up the match in #6 Singles with a win over Ryan Ciaccio (6-2, 6-2).
"I'm very happy to get off to a 1-0 start in the MAAC" said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "The men came out from the first ball ready to play and it showed in their results. It was great having Brad back on the court after a long layoff with a shoulder injury."
Fairfield will return to action this week as they take part in the ITA Northeast Regional tournament starting Thursday, October 11 to October 15.
