LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Fairfield University Volleyball ran off its seventh straight victory on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 sweep of Siena. The Stags hit .367 for the contest – their best attack percentage in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) outing this season.
With the win, Fairfield levels its overall record at 8-8 and stays unbeaten at 7-0 in the MAAC. Siena falls to 1-16 on the year with an 0-6 conference tally. The Stags took the match by set scores of 25-5, 25-12 and 25-15.
"Our goal going into the match was to control our side of the net and sustain our energy, and for the most part, we did that," said Head Coach
Todd Kress. "We were more aggressive from the end line than we have been in the last couple of matches, and we got our middles involved significantly more."
"Siena is dealing with some injuries right now," Kress continued. "But they will be a team to be reckoned with come tournament time down in Orlando."
Julia Kallen led a balanced Stags' attack with 10 kills on .474 hitting, and
Luci Albertson was right behind her with nine finishers at a .533 clip.
Sonja Radulovic added six kills on the outside, with
Sydney Williams and
Emily Schillinger pitching in four kills apiece. Rounding out the offense,
Laura Seeger sent home three kills and
Kaitlyn Fisher notched one.
The attack was managed by three-time reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week
Alexis Rich who piloted the offense to its scorching .367 clip with 33 assists.
The Stags also scored seven points from behind the service line, led by three aces from Kallen. Radulobic served up a pair of winners, and
Taylor Rudeen and
Sophia Hosokawa each landed one.
Defensively, Rudeen led the effort from the libero spot with 15 digs. In the process, she moved past Brandi Higa '09 into seventh place all-time at Fairfield with 1,362 career digs. In tonight's match, Radulovic added 11 digs, and Rich completed her team-best seventh double-double of the fall with 10 digs.
At the net, Rich and Albertson each had a hand in two of the Stags' three team blocks. Kallen and Seeger were each part of one rejection as the defense limited Siena to a -.010 hitting percentage.
Dakota Jackson led the Saints with seven kills, while dual setters Annie Stock and Justine Torre each distributed seven assists. In the back row, Jojo Ishida led all players with 16 digs.
Tonight's match was the first of five consecutive MAAC road outings for the Stags. Up next, Fairfield makes the longest trek of the conference slate with a weekend at Canisius and Niagara on Oct. 6-7. First serve for both matches in slated for 1 p.m. The Stags will also visit Iona (Oct. 12) and Manhattan (Oct. 14) before returning to George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall on host Rider and Saint Peter's on Oct. 20-21.
