Stags Power Past Saint Peter’s, 3-1

Garcia records her sixth double-double of the season

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball capped a home weekend with a 3-1 victory over Saint Peter's on Sunday on George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall. The Stags were led by Mayda Garcia's sixth double-double of the campaign as well as 11 kills on .444 hitting from Luci Albertson. Fairfield took the match by set scores of 25-23, 13-25, 25-16 and 25-12.
 
The victory completes a season sweep for the Stags over Saint Peter's and improves the squad to 10-12 overall and 9-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Peacocks fall to 6-21 on the season with a 3-10 conference mark.
 
Garcia's double-double consisted of a match-high 14 kills to go along with 10 digs. Albertson reached double figures with 11 kills for the third time in the last four contests and the fourth time during MAAC play this fall. The sophomore leads the conference with a .400 hitting percentage in MAAC outings.
 
Also fueling the offense from the middle was Sydney Williams, who slammed home seven kills on .417 hitting. Laura Seeger tallied nine finishers and Julia Kallen picked up eight in two sets of work, including six in the match-ending fourth frame. Sonja Radulovic added four kills to round out the attack. The offense was run by Alexis Rich, who handed out 47 assists.
 
Fairfield also served up eight aces in the contest – one shy of their season high as a team.  Kallen landed three straight winners in set four to lead the effort, with Rich serving two aces and Garcia, Albertson and Sophia Hosokawa dropping home one apiece.
 
In the back row, Taylor Rudeen posted her eighth 20-plus dig effort of the fall with a match-leading 21 digs from the libero spot. A pair of defensive specialists also contributed to the effort with Hosokawa and Jamie Calandro recording nine and eight digs, respectively. At the net, Albertson had a hand in five of Fairfield's eight team blocks, with Williams and Rich teaming up for three rejections in a span of six points to close out set three.
 
Saint Peter's was led by 11 kills from Karen Ramiu, who completed a double-double for the visitors with 11 digs. Angelee Ng managed the attack with 24 assists. In the back row, Alanis Alvarado and Karla Seda joined Ramiu in double figures with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
 
Up next, the Stags will play the final road match of their MAAC slate with the shortest trek of the conference campaign – a Friday, Oct. 26 clash at Quinnipiac. First serve from Hamden is slated for 7 p.m. The Bobcats are 5-18 overall and 4-9 in the MAAC following a four-set loss to visiting Rider this afternoon.
