Stags Host Saint Peter’s in Final Home Match of 2018

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will host their final home match of the 2018 season when they welcome the Saint Peter's Peacocks to Lessing Field on Wednesday night at 7pm.

The Stags will be looking to snap a mini two-game losing streak after falling to Monmouth, 4-1 on Senior Night. Sophomore Alex Madden was the lone Stag to touch net as she extended her conference lead with her 11th goal of the season. That number also places Madden 16th in the nation this season and ranks her ninth on the program's single season scoring list.

Along with the goals and points leader in the MAAC, the Stags also start the leader in assists in the conference as Gabby Diodati is currently tied with Marist's Alexa Svensson with six. Diodati also ranks 58th in the country with her six helpers.

The Stags were up for the challenge in the first half against Monmouth, firing all six of their shots on target, but could not completely challenge the Hawks' goalkeeper Amanda Knaub. On the other end, Monmouth converted three goals in the first half and capped the scoring with a goal in the 58th minute.

Fairfield is unbeaten in their program history against Saint Peter's, supporting a 25-0-2 all-time record. The last draw in the series came at home in 2016, despite Fairfield firing a Lessing Field record 43 shots in the contest. The first draw in the series came after four overtimes in the 1995 MAAC Tournament, a match where the Stags would advance in penalty kicks.

Saint Peter's is one of the most improved teams in the conference, picking up their most points in MAAC play since 2011. The next point that the Peacocks earn will be their most since 1998. The Peacocks returned 97 percent of their scoring from last season and also brought back the MAAC saves leader in goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt. This season, Scarratt owns 78 saves (6.00 per game).

The Stags will be on the road to conclude the 2018 season, beginning with a trip to Western New York to take on Niagara on Saturday at 1pm.
