HADLEY, Mass. -- The Fairfield University rowing team sent six boats to the Hadley Chase, highlighted by the varsity 4 taking 11th in a field of 28 and the novice 4 securing a second-place finish at the annual event. The Stags sent a pair of entries to the varsity 4 and varsity 8 races in addition to a boat in the novice 4 and novice 8 races.
The varsity 4's 11th-place finish came through the efforts of
Molly Roche, Eileen Kennan,
Bethany Gove,
Kelsey Carthew, and coxswain
Laura Mason, as the five student-athletes crossed the finish line with a time of 18:26.9. Marist College won the event with a time 17:17.2, followed by Dartmouth College (17:25.2) and UConn (17:30.1). The Stags beat out six other boats that were attached to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schools. The varsity 4B secured the 23rd slot in the final standings by finishing the course in 19:39.1. The entry included

Fairfield also placed a pair of entries in the varsity 8 with the B boat securing 21st with a time of 17:50.8 with the A boat one spot behind after running the course in 17:55.0. The B boat included

McKenzie Cunningham, Ani Dennen, Maddie Gibson,
Erin Dobbs,
Brook Sillart,
Katrina Kirchgaesser, and coxswain Meg Smith. The A squad was comprised by

Kaitlyn Sweeney, Sam Altomare,
Hailey White, and coxswain Katie Clark.
The novice program also was well represented in the event as the 4 boat was runner up to Manhattan College, which finished the race with a time of 19:55.1. The Stags were a distance second when they crossed the finish line with a time of 24:01.0. The Fairfield boat consisted of

Faith Kenny. The novice 8 rallied for a fourth-place run as it posted a 19:40.4 behind the efforts of Maddie Gibson,

Fairfield returns to the water on October 20 as it participates in the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston.
