FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will honor their eight-member senior class of 2019 as part of the pregame festivities on Saturday night against Monmouth. Kick-off against the first place Hawks is slated for 7pm while the Senior Night ceremonies will begin around 6:45pm.
The Stags will honor co-captains
Sara Plowman and
Jenny Jacobs as well as seniors
Maggie Walsh,
Alana Leahy,
Tessa Pedevillano,
Megan DeFeo,
Taylor Psirogianes, and
Holly Habyan for their four years of commitment and dedication to the program.
The senior class will try and help the Stags bounce back after a 3-2 loss to Iona, where Fairfield surrendered all three of the goals inside the first 11 minutes of the match.
Liz Dumas scored the first goal for the Stags on a header off a free kick from
Gabby Diodati. Sophomore
Alex Madden capped the scoring in the 88th minute to account for the 3-2 final score.
With that score, Madden extended her conference lead to 10 goals, a number that ranks her 18th in the nation. Diodati was credited with her sixth assist of the season, overtaking the MAAC lead in that category which places her 38th in the NCAA.
Monmouth will enter the match on a six-game winning streak, placing them as the top team in the MAAC. In conference matches, the Hawks are out-scoring their opposition 18-2. For the season, the Hawks have netted 26 goals compared to just six from their opposition. Nine different players have scored for the Hawks with three student-athletes (Madie Gibson, Alli DeLuca, and Lexie Palladino) are tied for the team lead with five goals. Goalkeeper Amanda Knaub leads the MAAC and ranks eighth in the nation in both goals against average (0.34) and save percentage (.906).
The Stags will close out the home portion of their 2018 schedule their next time out when they host Saint Peter's on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7pm.
