FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball completed an unbeaten weekend of action on George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall and ran its winning streak to five matches with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Saint Peter's in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon. The Stags were led by 11 kills from
Mayda Garcia as they took the contest by set scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-13.
Fairfield (9-6, 4-0 MAAC) hit .223 for the match, guided by Garcia's .364 (11-3-22) clip.
Skyler Day added nine kills, and
Kaitlyn Fisher sent home six in two sets of action.
Sonja Radulovic and
Nora Quinn each posted five kills while hitting .455 and .400, respectively.
Sydney Williams logged four kills to supplement the attack, and
Kaylie Butts chipped in with one. In addition to two kills of her own,
Manuela Nicolini distributed 38 assists from the setter position.
Defensively, Day led all players with 13 digs as she fell just shy of her sixth double-double of the fall.
Taylor Rudeen added 11 digs from the libero spot, and
Jamie Calandro recorded nine in the back row. At the net, Williams had a hand in all three of the Stags' team blocks. She paired up with Day, Garcia and Nicolini for one rejection apiece. Fairfield's team defense stifled the Peacocks to the tune of a -.021 hitting percentage.
Radulovic's three aces led a productive day from behind the service line for the Stags. Day, Quinn and Rudeen each added one winner to the scoring effort.
Saint Peter's (0-15, 0-5 MAAC) was led offensively by six kills on .308 hitting from Alexus Sharp. Carolina Ruiz and Imani Spicer shared setting duties and finished with nine and six assists, respectively. Ruiz also led the back row with 10 digs, while libero Karla Seda added nine.
The Stags are back on the road next weekend for the annual Western New York swing. Fairfield visit Canisius (4-10, 2-2 MAAC) on Saturday, Sept. 30 and heads to Niagara (8-5, 4-0 MAAC) on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Action returns to Alumni Hall on the following Saturday, Oct. 7 when the Stags welcome in-state MAAC foe Quinnipiac at 5 p.m. for a rematch of the 2016 MAAC Championship Match.
