Stags Ready For Christmas City Classic

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to take part in an in-season tournament as they play in the Christmas City Classic at Lehigh University. This is the second time the Stags will take part in this tournament, with their last appearance over a decade ago. The Stags will take on the host Mountain Hawks on Saturday at 2pm and then will conclude their stay taking on New Hampshire or La Salle at 12:30pm or 2pm, depending on the results.

The Stags are coming off their first victory of the season as they used a career-high 27 points from Sam Kramer who tied the program's single-game record with seven 3-pointers. Her 70 percent long-range shooting percentage (7-10) in the fourth most accurate number in a game in program history. Kramer highlighted three Stags in double figures as Samantha Cooper and Khadidiatou Diouf also reached the number.

Cooper also grabbed 10 rebounds, bringing her in the top-10 in career rebounds with 741. She is now 19 shy from Carolyn Hodges (1981-85) for ninth on the list. Through four games, she leads the conference and is 13th in the country with three double-doubles.

Kramer's shooting barrage has been a theme for the Stags all season as the team has attempted 98 3-pointers this season, which is on pace for 735 attempts (108 more than the single-season record for the Stags set during the 2012-13 season). Fairfield hit 11 3-pointers in their victory against Mount St. Mary's, which was one shy of tying the program's single-game mark set on December 29, 2012 against Wagner.

The Stags will first take on a Lehigh squad coming off back-to-back victories, but their last win came against Division II Mansfield in their home opener. Picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League, Lehigh returns 93 percent of their scoring and 90 percent pf their rebounding total from a season ago. Quinci Mann is the team's leading scorer and is currently 13th on the school's all-time scoring chart. She has been named to an All-Patriot League twice in her career.

In the tournament format, if the Stags defeat Lehigh they will take on either America-East Champion New Hampshire of A-10 member La Salle on Sunday at 2pm. If the Stags fall against the host, their Sunday game will be at 12:30pm.
