Skyler Day Named MAAC Player of the Week

Day registered a pair of career highs with 30 kills, 23 digs on Sunday

EDISON, N.J. – After registering a career day with 30 kills and 23 digs in Sunday's win for Fairfield University Volleyball at Niagara, Skyler Day has been selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week. Day earns the award for the second time this fall and the fifth time in her Fairfield career.

"It was a huge weekend for Sky, and she was a big part of our win at Niagara," said Head Coach Todd Kress. "She's absolutely well-deserving of the award this week, and I'm sure she would agree that her big numbers this past weekend can be attributed to the play of her teammates as well."

Day averaged 4.75 kills and 3.25 digs per set in the Stags' 2-0 week of MAAC play – a Saturday sweep at Canisius followed by Sunday's five-set triumph at Niagara. Her 30 kills (on .235 hitting) and 23 digs against the Purple Eagles both mark career highs for the reigning MAAC Player of the Year. Her 30 kills are the most in the MAAC this season and the 20th 30-kill outing in Division I this fall. Day is just the second Stag to reach the 30-kill mark in the rally scoring era (2001-pres.), joining her fellow senior co-captain Megan Theiller, who rang up 30 finishers last season in a four-set win over Quinnipiac.

For the season, Day leads the MAAC with 3.67 kills per set and ranks second on the team with 2.67 digs per frame. She has recorded five double-doubles this fall after posting 11 double-doubles in 2016.

Up next, Fairfield Volleyball will host Champions Weekend in conjunction with their Saturday, Oct. 7 visit from Quinnipiac (6-14, 5-2 MAAC). First serve from George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall is slated for 5 p.m. with all of the action set to air live on the Stags Sports Network. The Stags will recognize their nine MAAC Championship teams during the match, including the 20th anniversary of the 1997 MAAC Champions. Click here for more information.
