JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Fairfield University volleyball team opened its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate with a 3-0 win at Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon. The Stags were led by a double-double from Megan Theiller and 10 kills off the swing of Sydney Williams.
With the victory, the Stags move to 8-5 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC. Dating back to last fall's MAAC Championship campaign, Fairfield has won 10 straight MAAC regular season matches and 12 consecutive matches against MAAC opponents overall. Saint Peter's drops to 0-6 on the season with an 0-1 conference tally.
The Stags took the match by scores of 25-10, 26-24 and 25-19.
Theiller's double-double consisted of a match-high 18 kills and a team-leading 11 digs. She hit .366 in the contest while also landing a service ace and chipping in for one of Fairfield's six team blocks. Williams hit an overpowering .500, needing just 18 swings to rack up her 10 kills. The sophomore was also a part of three blocks.
Sonja Radulovic set a new career high in her young career with six kills, while Kaitlyn Fisher added three. Megan O'Sullivan and Mayda Garcia each notched two finishers, with Nora Quinn and Manuela Nicolini both landing one.
Sydney Buckley and Nicolini piloted the attack to a .231 hitting percentage, dishing out 22 and 13 assists, respectively. Nicolini also recorded six digs, and Buckley added four from the back row.
At the net, Fisher matched Williams with three blocks, and Quinn had a hand in two Fairfield rejections. Taylor Rudeen and Skyler Day helmed the back row with 10 digs apiece. In total, the defensive effort limited Saint Peter's to a .067 hitting percentage.
Amanda Colombo led Saint Peter's with nine kills and 13 digs. Kaitlyn Sitton distributed 28 assists for the Peacocks.
The Stags wrap up the opening weekend of MAAC action tomorrow at Rider. First serve from Alumni Gym in Lawrenceville, N.J. is slated for 1 p.m.
