FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Lauren Filicia and Courtney Hankins each registered three hits in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon but the Stags could not overcome Yale University in either contest, falling 5-4 in the opener and 6-5 in the second game.

Fairfield did not lead in the first game but did battle back on several occasions, as the Stags matched the Bulldogs run for run in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. Up 1-0, Yale posted a run in the fourth inning, but the Stags earned it back when Tori Reed scored off an infield error that made it a 2-1 game.

Yale added a run in the sixth inning but once again Fairfield picked it right back up when Gianna Kinhofer lofted a sacrifice fly that chased home pinch runner Makenna DiGuilio to bring the Stags back within a run at 3-2. The Bulldogs looked as though they would put the game out of reach with two more runs in the seventh inning, but Fairfield rallied one more time. Hankins nearly tied the game when her drive to the left field corner hit the fence to send home DiGuilio and Reed. However, Hankins was stranded at second base, resulting in the one-run loss.

In the second game, Yale jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, using three hits which included two doubles to grab the lead. Fairfield added its first run in the bottom of the inning, courtesy of Kinhofer's RBI single. The Stags would enjoy their first lead of the afternoon when they plated four runs in the fifth inning that included a three-run home run by Angelina McGuire.

The visitors recaptured the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it a 6-5 lead, and that's the way the score would stay.

Terra Jerpbak registered three hits for the Bulldogs in the first game while Carlin Hagmeier dealt out three base hits in the nightcap.
