Matija Milin Tabbed MAAC Rookie Of The Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Freshman Matija Milin became the fourth Fairfield University men's basketball player to earn a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week award when the forward received the honor this afternoon.

Milin averaged 16 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Stags, scoring 16 points in each of his two performances. Milin came off the bench in both games and led all Fairfield reserves in scoring. He shot 71 percent in the win over Siena (5 of 7) and had the same percentage at the line (5 of 7). He came back with three three-pointers and five free throws in the four-point loss to Saint Peter's. For the week, Milin shot 50 percent from the floor (9 of 18), 40 percent from three-point range (4 of 10), and 71 percent from the line (10 of 14).

For the season, Milin is averaging 8.1 points per game and ranks among the team's leaders in field goal percentage (.522). His back-to-back double-figure efforts last week increased his total to 11 double-digit scoring games including five in his last six games. During that six-game run, Milin is averaging 12.7 points per game.

The Fairfield University men's basketball team enters this week's MAAC tournament in Albany, N.Y. with an 18-12 overall record and a 12-8 MAAC mark. The Stags were ranked as high as third among most improved teams this year, standing at +11 after winning seven games a year ago. Coach Johnson and his fifth-seeded team will take on fourth-seeded Saint Peter's University on Saturday, March 5 at 9:30 pm from the Times Union Center.
