Colin Burke Named CAA Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – After scoring four points in his collegiate debut for the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team, attackman Colin Burke has been tabbed by the Colonial Athletic Association as its first Rookie of the Week of the 2016 season. Burke registered a hat trick and dished out an assist in the Stags' 11-10 loss to visiting Richmond on Monday morning.

The freshman from Lloyd Harbor, N.Y. is the first CAA rookie to post a three-goal game this season and one of five CAA players overall to do so in the young campaign – a list that also includes Fairfield senior co-captain Charlie Schnider. Burke is also the Association's lone student-athlete with two man-up goals.

Burke's first career goal staked the Stags to an early 2-1 lead over Richmond on Monday, and his next three points were integral in Fairfield's comeback effort that was clipped in the final minute of play. He sent home a third-quarter marker that cut the deficit to 8-6 and was then a part of two scores in the fourth frame. Burke assisted on Schnider's third goal in the final period then completed his own hat trick with the tally that trimmed the margin to just one goal at 9-8.

Burke and the Stags continue their home slate this Saturday, Feb. 20 for a visit from Bucknell. Faceoff on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium is slated for noon. The Bison are 2-0 on the season with a 13-5 home win over Delaware last Saturday, Feb. 6 and an 11-10 victory over Bryant on Sunday, Feb. 14 in a contest played indoors in Taunton, Mass. due to inclement weather.
