Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fairfield University volleyball team was on the short side of three close sets on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 at host Canisius in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match. The Stags were clipped by set scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22.
The match featured a total of 27 ties and 14 lead changes, including 16 deadlocks and seven lead changes in the opening set.
Skyler Day led Fairfield (4-7, 0-2 MAAC) with a team-best nine kills. She fell just short of a third consecutive double-double, adding 13 digs to the Stags' defensive effort. Chanel Cooper made the start and added eight kills while hitting .368 (8-1-19). Sydney Williams was effective in the middle with six kills on .357 hitting (6-1-14).
Kiley Lingenfelter dealt out a team-high 21 assists for the Stags, and Sydney Buckley distributed 12 assists. The setting duo ran the offense to a .165 hitting percentage.
In the back row, Taylor Rudeen led all players with 23 digs. At the net, Day, Oyinkansola Akinola and Kaitlyn Fisher each had a hand in two of the Stags' five team blocks.
Fairfield also garnered five points from the serving game, with Day landing a pair of service aces while Buckley, Hadley Orr and Megan Theiller each dropped in one winner.
Canisius (4-10, 2-0 MAAC) was led by a double-double (11 kills, 13 digs) from Katlyn Tyler and 10 kills by Jacklyn Malusa. Grace Streicher dished out 34 assists and guided the host Golden Griffins to a .221 hitting percentage.
The Stags open their home MAAC schedule this coming Saturday when in-state rival Quinnipiac visits Alumni Hall for a 1 p.m. outing. The clash with the Bobcats will be broadcast live on FairfieldStags.TV.
