Men's Lacrosse Returns to Rafferty Stadium to Host Colgate on Saturday

The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team returns to Rafferty Stadium following a three-game road swing to host Colgate on March, 14 at 1 p.m. The Stags and Raiders are meeting for the first time since the 2012 season.

Last Time Out: Action at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium came down to the final seconds on Tuesday, March 10 as the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team was on the short side of a 10-9 decision at Bucknell.

Charlie Schnider scored a goal and dished out three assists for Fairfield, while Tristan Sperry added two goals and an assist to surpass the century mark for his career with 102 points. TJ Neubauer also scored a pair for the Stags to improve his team-leading total to 12 goals on the season.

Adding single tallies for the Stags were Joe Rodrigues, Jake Knostman, Dave Fleming and Conor Dalton.

Knostman distributed two assists, with helpers also coming off the sticks of Colin McLinden and Drew Federico.

In the midfield, Neubauer collected four ground balls to lead the Stags to a 28-23 advantage in the category. Both faceoff specialists won better than 50 percent of their draws as Will Fox went 7-of-13 and Louie DiGiacomo was 6-of-10 at the 'X'.

Goalkeeper Brad Nordstrom established a new career high with 13 saves and picked up a personal-best three ground balls. The freshman netminder also accounted for one of the Stags' three caused turnovers.

The Matchup: The Stags will challenge Colgate for the eighth time in program history. The Raiders' 12-6 home win on March 17, 2012 ran the all-time series to 4-3 in favor of Colgate.

Colgate is the second of consecutive Patriot League foes on the Stags' 2015 ledger. Fairfield was edged by Bucknell, 10-9, on Tuesday in Lewisburg. The Raiders and Bison have already played this season with visiting Colgate earning a 10-8 triumph.

Bucknell is the only common opponent for the Stags and Raiders thus far in 2015, though Colgate will trek to Holy Cross in April as a part of the Patriot League slate.

Scouting Colgate: Coming off of their first loss of 2015, the Colgate Raiders visit Rafferty Stadium with a record of 4-1. Colgate was off to its best start since 1993 prior to last Saturday's 18-11 home loss to Boston University.

Colgate fell from the national rankings follow its first loss but continues to receive votes in both the USILA Coaches' Poll and Inside Lacrosse Cascade/Maverik Media Poll.

Offensively, Ryan Walsh and Anthony Abbadessa have each netted nine goals for the Raiders, while Matt Clarkson leads the club with 18 total points consisting of six goals and a Patriot League-leading 12 assists.

Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year Brandon Burke has played the majority of the minutes in goal for Colgate, compiling a 8.09 goals-against average with a .527 save percentage. He was injured against Bucknell on Feb. 28 and has been replaced between the posts by Jake Danehy (12.89 GAA, .395 save pct.). Burke's status for Saturday's game has not been stated publicly by Colgate.

Consistency Is Key: Three Stags - Tristan Sperry, Colin McLinden and Charlie Schnider - have tallied at least one point in each of Fairfield's six contests thus far in 2015. Not surprisingly, the trio also leads the Stags in scoring. Sperry has piled up a team-best 21 points (11g, 10a), followed by 17 points from McLinden (5g, team-high 12a) and 16 points (9g, 7a) from Schnider. The team leader in goals is TJ Neubauer, who has scored 12 in addition to one assist.

Spanning back to last spring, McLinden is in the midst of a 10-game streak with at least one point, while Sperry has notched a point in eight consecutive contests.

The only Stag with a goal in every game this season, Sperry has found the back of the net in seven straight games dating back to his two goals in the 2014 ECAC Championship Game against Air Force.

The Week Ahead: The Stags return to road action on Tuesday, March 17 with a 4 p.m. contest at Massachusetts-Lowell.

Fairfield is back at Rafferty Stadium the following Saturday, March 21 to meet nationally-ranked Villanova at 5:30 p.m. The game is the nightcap of a doubleheader that will also feature Fairfield women's lacrosse opening its MAAC schedule against Manhattan at 2 p.m.

Fairfield University will host the official dedication of Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, March 21 in-between the two games (approximately 4 p.m.) as a part of a day-long celebration of Fairfield lacrosse.
