Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team earned its first MAAC win on Friday afternoon against Bryant University. The Stags tallied three goals in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie and claim the 4-1 victory. Fairfield scored four goals for the third consecutive game and snapped a four game losing streak.
The Bulldogs were on the board first with a goal from Emiko Barker. Barker rifled a shot from the top of the circle that found its way into the net. But the Stags would shut down Bryant after that, only allowing nine shots the whole game.
Ann Burgoyne scored for the third straight game. She tied the game in the 25th minute when she received a pass from Kaitlyn Taddeo right in front of the cage.
Erin Buckley also recorded her third goal in as many games. The sophomore was awarded a penalty stroke and easily beat the keeper as she fired a shot to the left side.
Emma Clark scored the first goal of her career in the 45th minute to put the Stags up 3-1. Burgoyne took a hard shot and Clark was in the right place to deflect the ball right past the keeper. The assist was also Burgoyne's first of the season.
With the game in hand, the Stags added another goal in the 68th minute to go up 4-1. A mirror image of the first goal, Burgoyne received a pass from Taddeo and stepped past the keeper for her second score of the day.
Junior forward Ann Burgoyne has now scored 13 points in the last three Fairfield games, and during MAAC play she has nine points in three games. On the season, the junior has scored 27 points off 13 goals and one assist.
Senior Kaitlyn Taddeo continues to move up the Fairfield record books as she recorded her 18th and 19th career assist today. That career total puts her fourth in program history.
Caitlin Bennett earned her fourth win of the season and first MAAC victory. The junior posted three saves on the day. Sophomore Corrine Baliga added a defensive save for the Stags.
Fairfield closes out their home portion of the schedule as they host Siena on Sunday at 1:00 pm for Senior Day.
