Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. – The Fairfield University volleyball team hit at a .344 clip en route to a straight-set win at Quinnipiac on Thursday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. The Stags were led by 18 kills from Skyler Day and 13 finishers on 20 errorless attempts off the swing of Megan O'Sullivan.
With the win, Fairfield (10-9, 6-4 MAAC) completes the home-and-home sweep of its only in-state MAAC foe. The Stags took tonight's match from Burt Kahn Court by set scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-15.
O'Sullivan's .650 hitting percentage is the best by a Stags since Katie Mann '10 also hit .650 (14-1-20) in a sweep of Saint Peter's on Oct. 25, 2008 at Alumni Hall. Day hit .458 from the outside (18-4-30) to post her match-leading kill total.
Megan Theiller just missed double figures with nine kills. Chanel Cooper had four kills on nine swings without an error.
The Stags' efficient attack was run through Sydney Buckley, who distributed a career-high 42 assists to go along with two kills of her own.
Defensively, libero Taylor Rudeen led the Stags with eight digs, with Theiller adding six from the back row. O'Sullivan and Buckley led the effort at the net as each had a hand in four of Fairfield's six team blocks. The Stags limited the Bobcats to a .072 hitting percentage.
Rounding out the Fairfield scoring, Day served up three aces, while Buckley and Bella Guanciale landed one winner apiece.
Quinnipiac (2-20, 1-10 MAAC) was led by 10 kills from Katie Urycki. Kat Miller doled out 21 assists for the hosts and got a piece of five Bobcat blocks.
Tonight's win concludes a five-match MAAC road swing for the Stags, who went 4-1 on the trip. Action returns to Alumni Hall tomorrow night – Friday, Oct. 23 – as Fairfield rounds out the non-conference slate with a 7 p.m. visit from another nearby rival, Sacred Heart.
