Box Score Five different Stags tallied four or more kills as the Fairfield volleyball team snapped a two-game skid to sweep in-state rival Quinnipiac 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-18) at Alumni Hall. With the win, Head Coach Todd Kress notches his 100th career win at Fairfield, dating back to his first stint with the team in the late 1990s.
The first set featured 14 service errors and 13 attack errors but Fairfield (6-8, 2-2 MAAC) was able to get the upper hand. Fairfield did not record a kill until Megan Theiller took a pass from Sydney Buckley to put Fairfield within a point at 6-5. The Stags fell behind Quinnipiac (2-12, 0-3 MAAC) by three with the score at 20-17 despite ten service errors from the Bobcats. After a Fairfield timeout, the Stags would end the game on an 8-0 run which featured two kills from Theiller and also a pair from Megan O'Sullivan.
The Stags found their groove going into the second game. Fairfield would not trail for a single point for the remainder of the match starting with the second set. With the score tied at five, Fairfield went on another run this one an 11-4 spread which was led by three kills by Hadley Orr. The Stags did not need a kill for the final nine points of the set which saw two attack errors and two bad sets to put Fairfield at set point which was delivered by Peizer.
The third set featured Fairfield's biggest lead of the match when they led 20-11 after another Quinnipiac attack error. Lindsay Weaver had three kills in the frame and Maddie Fitzpatrick followed her up with two kills of her own. Orr ended the match with a kill, the 29th for the Stags.
Weaver finished with a match-high seven kills and Bella Guanciale recorded a match-high 15 digs. Theiller notched 10 digs which is the fifth straight game where she has reached double figures in that department.
The Stags are back at home on Saturday, October 4 when they host Siena College in a match that will be streamed on FairfieldStags.TV.
