FAIRFIELD, Conn. --- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will play 16 home games in 2014-15, including three doubleheaders that will be part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in November. Plus, the Stags will head to Duke University for a November 15 match up.
“Every season I've been at Fairfield, we've played a difficult out of conference schedule,” Fairfield University Head Basketball Coach Sydney Johnson said. “This season is no different. Further, I am proud to be a part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament because it provides our student-athletes the opportunity to play quality opponents while helping make a difference in the fight against cancer.”
The Coaches vs. Cancer event will include a road game against Duke University on November 15 followed by three home doubleheaders from November 21-23 at Webster Bank Arena. Fairfield will host Wofford College, University of South Dakota, and Sam Houston State University in those three doubleheaders.
Fairfield opens the 2014-15 campaign against Central Connecticut State University, the first game of the annual Connecticut 6 Classic which will be hosted by Quinnipiac University on November 14. It marks the second time that the Stags and the Blue Devils meet in this college basketball tripleheader over the last three years. The Connecticut 6 features the University of Hartford, Sacred Heart University, and Yale University.
Fairfield returns to the road on November 29, its sixth game in 15 days, when it takes on Northeastern University. The Stags return home on December 1 for a match up with Bucknell University before playing a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games over the first weekend of December.
The Stags start the MAAC season with a home game against Manhattan College on December 5. The team will travel up the interstate to close out the conference weekend, playing Quinnipiac University on December 7.
After exams, Coach Johnson will lead his team in a home contest against Belmont University on December 20, followed by a December 22 date at the University at Albany. The calendar year comes to an end on December 28 with a home game against Loyola University.
The MAAC schedule picks up in January as the Stags will play 18 straight conference games to close out the season. The New Year starts with home games against Siena College on January 2 and Rider University on January 5 before completing the season series with Siena on January 11 at the Times Union Center. Fairfield takes on Iona College two days later in New Rochelle. Fairfield plays five of its nine January games at home, including Marist College on January 16, Canisius College on January 22, and Monmouth University on January 30.
The month of February begins with a game against Iona College on February 2, but sends the team to Rider University on February 5 and Saint Peter's University on February 7. The Stags play three of their next four games at home, starting with a home game on February 13 against Quinnipiac University. Fairfield goes up against Manhattan College on February 15 in Riverdale, N.Y. before returning home for match ups with Niagara University on February 19 and Saint Peter's University on February 21.
The regular season comes to an end with the Stags' annual trek to upstate New York, taking on Canisius College on February 27 and Niagara University on March 1. The 2015 MAAC Championship will be held March 5-9 at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.
