Ten Stags Score as Women's Basketball Tops Saint Peter's 71-39

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – All 10 Stags scored as the Fairfield University women's basketball team topped Saint Peter's University 71-39 this afternoon at Webster Bank Arena. Fairfield, which has won five straight and eight of the last 10 games, improves to 17-8 overall and to 12-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
 
Senior Katie Cizynski led all scorers with 22 points, going 10-for-19 from the floor. Seniors Brittany Obi-Tabot and Alexys Vazquez had 11 points apiece.
 
It was close in the early going but the Stags used a 15-0 run to pull ahead 27-9 on a lay-up by Vazquez at 7:54. The Stags took a 40-20 advantage into the break. It was the sixth time this season in which the Stags have held an opponent to 20 or fewer points in the opening stanza.
 
The Stags clamped down defensively in the second half as well, holding the Peacocks to just 19 points on 5-for-27 shooting. Fairfield, meanwhile, shot 45.8 percent (11-for-24) to roll to the 71-39 victory.
 
Junior Felicia DaCruz had five assists and seven rebounds while Kristin Schatzlein added eight points and six rebounds.
 
Off the bench, freshman Kristine Miller had five points and three rebounds while Christelle Akon-Akech had six boards, three assists, and two points in 19 minutes. Sophomore Lizzy Ball had four points and two assists while rookie Kelsey Carey had four points. Senior Casey Grace played 12 minutes, finishing with two points, two assists, three boards, and a steal.
 
Fairfield shot 50 percent from the floor, connecting on 25 of 50 shots. The Stags were also 55.6 percent from beyond the arc, hitting five of nine shots.
 
For Saint Peter's (3-22; 2-14 MAAC), Kylie Garrett tallied 13 points.
 
Fairfield will play its final home game on February 21 when it hosts Manhattan College at 7pm in Alumni Hall on Senior Night. Prior to the tip-off, the Stags will honor their senior class of Akon-Akech, Cizynski, Grace, Obi-Tabot, Vazquez.
