Women's Basketball Tops Saint Peter's 52-40

The Fairfield University women's basketball team pulled out a 52-40 victory over Saint Peter's University this afternoon at the Yanitelli Center. Two Stags scored in double figures to lift Fairfield to a 13-8 record.

Senior Brittany Obi-Tabot tallied 14 points with six rebounds, to lead the Stags in scoring. Senior Katie Cizynski was close behind with 12 points, scoring six in each half. Cizynski has now scored in double figures in 13 consecutive games.

Senior Alexys Vazquez scored nine points for the Stags, with three rebounds and three assists.

Fairfield (13-8; 8-4 MAAC) took an early lead when sophomore Kristin Schatzlein scored the first three-pointer of the game at 18:54. The teams went back and forth until the 4:22 mark when the Stags went on a 7-0 run to pull away from the Peacocks. Fairfield took a 27-20 lead into the break. It was the fifth time this season in which the Stags held an opponent to 20 or less points in the first half.

The Stags scored the first points of the second half on a jumper by Cizynski at 17:41. Fairfield controlled most of the half, opening up a 45-31 lead at the 7:12 mark on a free throw by junior Felicia DaCruz. The Stags shot 41.7 percent from the floor for the frame while holding off Saint Peter's for the 52-40 win.

DaCruz dished out five assists on the day, lifting her career total to 216 which places her 19th all-time at Fairfield.

For Saint Peter's (3-19; 2-10 MAAC), Kaydine Bent was the leading-scorer with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist. Hala Mostafa had eight points and three rebounds for the Peacocks.

Fairfield will return to action on February 4 when the Stags host Monmouth at Alumni Hall at 7pm.
