POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Fairfield University women's swimming & diving team fell to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Marist College this afternoon at the Red Fox Aquatic Club. The Fairfield women were edged 177-115.
On the women's side, junior Liz Avery recorded an individual victory on the day. Avery captured the 50y freestyle with a time of 26.01. Avery also tied for third place with teammate Michelle Pleban in the 100y freestyle. Both clocked a time of 56.96.
Junior Kelly Mulligan placed second in the 200y backstroke with a time of 2:17.78 and third in the 100y backstroke with a time of 1:03.94.
Rookie Sierra Weiner made a splash, earning first place points in the 100y butterfly and the 400y IM. Weiner clocked a time of 1:00.61 in the 100butterfly and a time of 4:40.10 in the 400y IM.
The 400y medley relay of Mulligan, Meghan Guinee, Weiner, and Avery had a time of 4:11.59 to place second. In the 200y freestyle relay, Avery, Pleban, Mulligan, and Ashley Boyle earned first place points with a time of 1:45.15.
Senior Ashlee Steinberger placed third on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the women. Steinberger recorded a mark of 232.05 on the 1-meter and a 237.45 on the 3-meter. Lauren Kemple posted a 1-meter 168.67 and a 3-meter 178.72 to finish fifth on both boards. Sophomore Caroline Gailius placed sixth (166.12) on the 1-meter and seventh (141.22) on the 3-meter while classmate Leah Pawelczyk finished sixth (174.37) on the 3-meter event and seventh (158.47) on the 1-meter.
The Fairfield women's (2-2; 1-1 MAAC) team will continue their action at home. The Stags will return to the RecPlex Pool on Saturday, November 15 when Fairfield hosts Pace University at 1pm.
