DaCruz's Free Throw Lifts Women's Basketball to 66-65 Win Over Siena in OT

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Fairfield University junior Felicia DaCruz hit a free throw with 0.8 seconds left in overtime to left the Stags to a 66-65 win over Siena College this evening at Webster Bank Arena.
 
DaCruz accounted for all 10 of Fairfield's points during overtime and finished with 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting, six assists, and four boards in 42 minutes of action.
 
Senior Brittany Obi-Tabot recorded her first double-double of the year, finishing with 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting and 10 rebounds. Senior Katie Cizynski led all scorers with 19 points while grabbing eight rebounds.
 
After forcing overtime with a last second three-pointer by Kanika Cummings, Siena (9-17; 1-6 MAAC) came out strong in the extra frame opening up a 60-56 advantage. DaCruz responded with a pair of jumpers to tie the game at 60-60 with two minutes left. After a lay-up by Siena at 1:33, DaCruz responded with another jumper to retie the game. With 18 seconds left, DaCruz nailed a three-pointer to put the Stags ahead, 65-62. Cummings answered with a three-pointer of her own seven seconds later to tie the game at 65-65. With the clock winding down, DaCruz drove towards the basket and was fouled to set up her the game-winning free throw.
 
The Stags held a slight 26-22 advantage at halftime. The Saints quickly erased the deficit out of the break and took a 33-32 lead on a three-pointer by Cummings. Fairfield managed to open up a 49-44 lead with 6:51 remaining but Siena used a 4-0 run to make it a one point game.
 
Fairfield built its lead back up to 56-50 after a pair of free throws by Alexys Vazquez with 17 seconds left in regulation. A three-pointer by Kelsey Booth three seconds later made it, 56-53, while Cummings' three-pointer with two seconds left capped off the 6-0 run which forced overtime.
 
Cummings finished with 16 points while Tehresa Coles tallied 11 points for the Saints. Ida Krogh was also in double-digits with 10 points.
 
Fairfield (10-5; 5-2 MAAC) is back in action on January 18 when it hosts first-place Iona College at 11am at Webster Bank Arena in a game that will air live on SNY. Saturday is also Basketball Alumnae Day and the Stags will honor the 1987-88 MAAC Championship squad.
