Women's Basketball Falls to Marist

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's basketball team fell to Marist College, 60-36, this evening at Alumni Hall. Sophomore Kristin Schatzlein had 13 points, scoring in double figures for the fourth time in five games, while grabbing four rebounds.

Senior Katie Cizynski recorded her third-straight double-double and her fifth in the last six games, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Felicia DaCruz finished with eight points, three assists, and three rebounds.
 
Marist (11-4; 5-0 MAAC) jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the game. The Red Foxes held the Stags without a field goal until a jumper by Schatzlein at 14:34 which made the score 8-4. Marist then answered with a 10-0 run. Schatzlein ended the Stags' scoring drought at 10:41 with a three-pointer. Casey Grace cut it to single digits, 20-11, with a jumper in the lane at 7:49. Marist went on to take a 35-16 lead into half time, holding Fairfield to fewest points in a half all season. The Red Foxes controlled in the second half as well holding the Stags to their lowest point total of the season.
 
Fairfield (9-6; 4-2 MAAC) continues its home stand with two games next week. Fairfield hosts Siena on January 16 at 6pm at Webster Bank Arena in a contest that will air live on ESPN3. It will be 2-for-1 Thursday at the Arena with fans receiving two tickets for the price of one. The Stags return to Webster Bank Arena two days later to host Iona at 11am in a game that will air live on SNY. Next Saturday is Basketball Alumni Day and Fairfield will honor the 1987-88 MAAC Championship squad.
