CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Fairfield University volleyball team downed Bryant University 3-0 (25-22, 25-20; 25-19) this morning to finish out competition at the Boston College Invitational.

Junior Caitlin Stapleton posted a match-high 13 kills along with three total blocks. Senior Hayley Moyer had six kills and two total blocks while junior Lindsay Weaver had six kills and three total blocks. Senior Rachel Romansky tied a career-high with four aces to go along with five digs and 27 assists.

Both Stapleton and Romansky were named to the All-Tournament Team after helping the Stags to a second-place finish.

Fairfield trailed 22-19 in the first set when Maddie FitzPatrick came up with a huge kill to spark a 6-0 run for the Stags. After a Bryant attack error, FitzPatrick and Stapleton tied it with a block. Stapleton gave the Stags the 23-22 lead with a kill while a Bulldogs attack error set up game point. Stapleton put it away with a kill for the 25-22 win.

After Bryant came back to tie the second set at 15-15, a kill by Moyer ignited a 6-1 run by the Stags. Marilyn Peizer capped off the run with a kill to extend Fairfield's lead to 22-16. The Bulldogs countered with three unanswered points to cut it to 22-19 and prompt a Stags timeout. Fairfield regrouped out of the break and went on to the 25-20 win.

In the third set, the score was tied 6-6 when a kill by Weaver gave Fairfield a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the frame. Bryant pulled within 14-13 on a kill by Jana Kmec, but Hadley Orr answered with a kill of her own. That's as close at the Bulldogs would get as the Stags cruised to a 25-19 win.

Fairfield (2-5) returns to action next weekend at the LIU Brooklyn Blackbird Invitational next weekend. The Stags open the tournament against Colgate on September 13 and take on Cornell and LIU Brooklyn on September 14.
