CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -
The Fairfield University volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2013 season by knocking off Hampton University 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 26-24) this morning in the first match of the Boston College Invitational. Sophomore Hadley Orr paced the Stags with 10 kills.

Junior Lindsay Weaver notched nine kills and a career-high three solo blocks while senior Hayley Moyer posted nine kills. Junior Caitlin Stapleton chipped in with eight kills.

Fairfield dominated the first set running away with a 25-12 win. The Stags carried the momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Hampton clawed back eventually tying the set, 16-16, on a Petra Parros kill. The two teams went back-and-forth the rest of the way. Parros put Hampton ahead, 24-23, with a kill but Stapleton held off set point with a kill of her own. After a Pirates' attack error, Orr put down a feed from Rachel Romansky to give Fairfield the 26-24 win.

The third stanza was a see-saw battle with 15 ties and three lead changes. With the score tied 23-23, Orr put the Stags on top with a kill. Hampton's Vendula Strakova tied it with a kill but the Pirates committed back-to-back errors to send Fairfield off with a 26-24 win.
