Erin Pettersen found Ashley Small with 76 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Fairfield University women's soccer team a 2-1 victory Thursday night. The win is the Stags first of the season, 1-3, while the Hawks fall to 1-1-2 on the year.

The Stags outshot the Hawks 7-1 in the second-half, and 13-5 for the game, but it was the final shot of the game that proved to be the decisive tally. Pettersen fed the ball across the box to the foot of Small, who pushed it into the side netting from 10-yards out.

Kathleen Early made three saves in the game, including one with 9:39 to play in the regulation to keep the tie scored at 1-1, to earn the win. Ashley Koerkenmeier stopped three shots, against two goals allowed, in the loss for Hartford.

The Hawks struck first in the 31st minute when Natasha Douglas deflected an attempted clear into the back of the net for the 1-0 edge. The Stags wasted little time in answering as Megan O'Brien knocked home a ball from six-yards out 36:11 into the first-half.

Fairfield had the advantage in nearly every statistical category, including an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. The Stags committed one additional foul, 10-9, in the win.

The Stags are off until the Fairfield Women's Soccer Invitational, September 13-15 on Lessing Field. The Stags take on America at 7 p.m. on September 13th following a 4 p.m. match-up between Hartford and Holy Cross. On September 15th American and Hartford meet at 11 a.m. while the Stags take on the Crusaders at 2 p.m.
