NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Fairfield University volleyball team dropped its third-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest falling 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-25) at Iona College this afternoon.

Junior Marilyn Peizer tallied a career-high 16 kills on .500 hitting along with five digs. Red-shirt senior Carsen Mata recorded her third double-double with 35 assists and 13 digs. She also posted a career-high five kills. Sophomore Hadley Orr was just shy of a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and nine digs.

Senior Hayley Moyer finished with seven kills and two total blocks, including the 200th of her career. Senior Rachel Romansky tallied 11 digs and eight assists while Bella Guanciale had 10 digs.

The Stags opened the match with a 5-0 run. The Gaels were trailing by that same margin at 12-7 when a block by Natalie Ziskin and Shannon Ward ignited an 8-0 run allowing Iona to overtake Fairfield. The Stags closed the gap to 20-19 but the Gaels hung on for the 25-22 win.

With the score tied 7-7 in the second set, Orr put the Stags ahead with a kill. Fairfield would not relinquish its lead as the Stags cruised to a 25-17 win. Fairfield hit .500 for the set with 18 kills.

Iona (4-10; 2-2 MAAC) led from the start of the third set and would not trail in the 25-20 win. In the fourth set, after the Gaels opened up an 18-9 advantage, the Stags were unable to recover as they fell 25-15.

Fairfield (3-11; 1-3 MAAC) returns home next weekend to host its first of five-straight MAAC matches. Saint Peter's University visits on October 5 followed by Rider University on October 6.
