The Fairfield University volleyball team was upended by Manhattan College 3-0 (24-26, 17-25, 19-25) this afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action.

Senior Hayley Moyer finished with seven kills and three block assists on the day. With her block assists, she entered Fairfield's career charts with 179, good for 11th all-time. Moyer has 198 total blocks over the last four seasons.

Sophomore Hadley Orr had a match-high 17 digs along with five kills while freshman Bella Guanciale tallied 14 digs and four assists. Junior Marilyn Peizer had nine kills while Caitlin Stapleton had six kills.

Fairfield seemed to have the first set in hand, leading 20-16 after a kill by Peizer. Manhattan slowly crept back, tying the set at 20-20 after back-to-back Stags attack errors. After a kill by Stapleton, the Jaspers countered with four unanswered points to pull ahead 24-21. Fairfield held off set point thrice to tie the frame, 24-24, but Manhattan eked out the final two points of the frame for the 26-24 win.

With the scored tied 12-12 in the second set, the Jaspers (9-7; 3-1 MAAC) went on a 5-0 run to pull away from the Stags. That was all the room Manhattan needed as it went on to the 25-17 win. Manhattan carried the momentum into the third set, pulling out to a 15-9 lead. The Stags cut the gap to 21-19 on an ace by Orr, but the Jaspers posted the final four points of the day for the win.

Manhattan out-blocked the Stags, 9-6. Kills were even at 32 apiece while Fairfield held a 45-44 advantage in digs on the day. The Jaspers snapped their five-match losing streak to the Stags, picking up their first victory against Fairfield since 2010.

Fairfield (3-10; 1-2 MAAC) returns to action tomorrow, September 29, at Iona College at 1pm.
