LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. --
Julie de Paeuw scored a pair of goals and added an assist while Caitlyn Bennett made five saves to record the shutout as the Fairfield University field hockey team posted a 4-0 win over Siena College on the road. The victory extended the Stags' winning streak to three and improved the team's record to 6-2. Fairfield has not lost to an unranked team this season.
Shealyn Testa opened the scoring with a goal just 16 minutes into the game, a score that was set up by
Felicitas Heinen's pass to left of the circle. The Stags doubled up their advantage 12 minutes later when
Kaitlyn Taddeo connected from just in front of the goal. The scoring play started from the left corner, just outside the circle. de Paeuw received the pass and sent the ball to Taddeo who was standing five yards from goal.
Fairfield managed one more goal before the half as dePaeuw finished up a penalty corner with less than three minutes remaining in the half. The pall was sent to the top of the circle where Heinen accepted the ball. She released a shot on goal that de Paeuw tipped past the goal keeper for a 3-0 advantage. The final goal of the game came in the second half with 14 minutes remaining.
Hillary Fitts picked up the assist when she sent the ball to center circle where de Paeuw flicked the ball to the right side of the goal.
While the offense was clicking all day, Bennett was unforgiving in the goal, making five saves to post her first collegiate shutout. Beth Meyers made eight saves for Siena as she faced 18 Fairfield shots.
Fairfield will play two home games next week, hosting Monmouth on Friday, September 27 and Columbia on September 29.
