FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's basketball team fell to Iona College, 62-47, this afternoon at Alumni Hall.

Katelyn Linney had 14 points for Fairfield (13-8; 7-3 MAAC) and moved into 17th all-time on the Stags' career scoring charts with 1,198 points. Junior
Katie Cizynski saw her 11-game double-digit scoring streak halted as she finished with seven points, nine rebounds, and a career-high five assists. Rookie
Kristin Schatzlein added seven points.
Iona (11-10; 6-4 MAAC) was red-hot in the first half, shooting 56.0 percent. Iona started the game on a 9-2 run. The Stags narrowed the gap to 9-6 on a Linney lay-up but the Gaels went on a 13-0 run over the next 3:20. Schatzlein ended the Stags scoring drought at 9:58 with a basket but Iona added five unanswered points for the 27-8 lead at 8:34.
A three-pointer by senior
Brittany MacFarlane ended the Gaels' run at 8:07. Iona returned its lead to 19 points, 30-11, on a bucket by Damika Martinez at 6:13. Fairfield chipped away at the deficit late in the half as a three by Cizynski with 31 seconds left made the score 34-23, a score that would stand at halftime.
Iona came out of the break with a 4-0 run. The Stags did not back down over the next few minutes as a three by Schatzlein and a lay-up by Linney pulled the Stags within 43-34 with 8:42 left to play. Iona was able to hold off Fairfield the rest of the way for the 62-47 win.
MacFarlane finished with five points and three rebounds for the Stags. For Iona, Martinez finished with a game-high 21 points while Joy Adams had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Sabrina Jeridore finished with six blocks.
The Gaels shot 52.2 percent (24-for-46) from the floor and 45.5 percent (5-for-11) from three-point range and out-rebounded the Stags 37-27. The win was Iona's first over Fairfield since February 1, 2010 and snapped a seven-game skid against the Stags.
Fairfield hits the road for a pair of MAAC games beginning at Rider University on February 7 at 5pm. The Stags then travel to Manhattan College on February 10.
