NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Fairfield University women's basketball team fell at Niagara University, 50-39, this evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Gallagher Center.

Alexys Vazquez added eight points. Junior
Brittany Obi-Tabot added five rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Niagara (13-13; 8-7 MAAC)and Fairfield battled it out in the first half with 12 lead changes. With the score tied 21-21, with 3:30 to play, Fairfield went on a 6-2 run to close out the half and take a 27-23 lead into the break.
In the second half, Fairfield opened up a 31-27 lead but Niagara countered with an impressive 19-2 run over the next 13 minutes. During that span, the Purple Eagles held the Stags without a field goal until Akon-Akech put back an offensive board with 54 seconds left in the game.
Fairfield shot just 19 percent in the second half, going 4-for-21 from the field. Niagara shot 36 percent from the floor for the half, including a 3-for-7 effort from three-point range. The Purple Eagles also went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Fairfield (16-10; 10-5 MAAC) closes out its stay in Western New York with a stop at Canisius College on February 24 at 2pm.
