PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Nine different Stags scored, including three in double digits, as the Fairfield University women's basketball team trounced the University of Maine, 80-59, to win the 2013 Brown Bear Classic. Senior Brittany Obi-Tabot was named the Brown Bear Classic MVP while junior Felicia DaCruz joined her on the Brown Bear Classic All-Tournament Team.

DaCruz had one of her best games as a Stag, recording a career-high 19 points against Maine. The point guard went 8-for-12 from the floor, 3-for-4 from long range, with five rebounds, four assists, and no turnovers in 33 minutes of play against the Black Bears. In the two games of the Brown Bear Classic, DaCruz averaged 9.5 points and 2.5 rebounds, and handed out nine assists without a turnover in 60 minutes of play.

Obi-Tabot tallied a season-high 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor and a 4-for-4 effort from the free throw line. Obi-Tabot also posted seven rebounds, a block and a steal in 30 minutes of action. In the two games of the tournament, Obi-Tabot averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds.

Senior Alexys Vazquez also posted double figures against Maine, tallying 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting, with four rebounds. Sophomore Kristin Schatzlein had nine points and four rebounds. Senior Katie Cizynski had her seven-game, double-digit scoring streak snapped, as she finished with eight points and five rebounds.

In the first half, Maine (5-3) opened up an 18-14 lead on a lay-up by Liz Wood at 11:58. Lay-ups by Kristine Miller and Obi-Tabot in a 45-second span tied it up at 18-18. Chantel Charles nailed a three-pointer at 10:57 returning the lead to the Black Bears. Maine opened up a 27-22 advantage on a three-pointer by Wood at 8:09.

Cizynski followed with back-to-back buckets which sparked a 15-2 run for the Stags over the next six and a half minutes. After Cizynski's baskets pulled the Stags within 27-26, Fairfield retook the lead at 6:19 as Casey Grace fought through traffic for the lay-in. After a Maine basket at 5:54, the Stags rattled off nine unanswered points for the 37-29 lead. The Black Bears' five-minute scoring drought was ended by Courtney Anderson who hit a three-pointer with just 47 seconds left in the half. Fairfield, however, took a 37-32 lead into halftime.

The Stags stormed out of the break with a 12-4 run over the first four minutes to pull away from the Black Bears, 49-36. Maine countered with a quick 7-1 run to cut the gap to 50-43 at the 12:32 mark. DaCruz halted the Maine run with a three-pointer at 11:32 to put the Fairfield lead back to double-digits. It was just one of six baskets DaCruz made in the second half for a total of 14 points in the half. The Stags controlled the rest of the way for the 80-59 win.
