FAIRFIELD, Conn. - It was a battle for first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this afternoon in Alumni Hall and Fairfield University came out on top by defeating Manhattan College 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15). The Stags extended their winning streak to 12 matches as they improved to 15-11 overall and 12-3 in the MAAC. With the loss, Manhattan falls to 12-4 in the league and 19-11 overall.
The Stags avenged an early season loss to the Jaspers, who have never defeated Fairfield at Alumni Hall nor swept them during the regular season. Fairfield also secured the tie-breaker over Manhattan should it be needed.
Junior
Marilyn Peizer posted a match-high 14 kills on .423 hitting along with six digs. She's now recorded double-digit kills in each of the last 12 matches. Sophomore
Hadley Orr just missed a double-double finishing with 14 digs and nine kills on .412 hitting.
Senior
Rachel Romansky had 36 assists, seven digs, five kills, and three total blocks while
Caitlin Stapleton had seven kills. Senior

Maddie FitzPatrick chipped in with six kills apiece. Moyer added three aces, four digs, and three total blocks while FitzPatrick added four blocks.
Carsen Mata had 12 digs and six assists while junior
Camille Coffey had three digs and an ace.
Fairfield set the tone early, starting the match with a 7-2 run. Manhattan closed the gap to 8-7 but the Stags countered with an 11-2 run. Fairfield cruised to the 25-15 win.
Manhattan trailed by three points midway through the second set, but tied things up 16-16 after a Fairfield error. The Stags answered with six straight points to pull away. Fairfield never looked back going on to the 25-19 win.
Fairfield dominated the third set, hitting .406 with 17 kills. The Stags rolled to the 25-15 win.
Fairfield hit .347 for the match while holding Manhattan to an attack percentage of .048. The Stags also out-blocked the Jaspers, 7-2, and posted five aces.
The Stags return to action tomorrow, November 10, as they welcome Iona College at 1pm in a match that will be streamed live on
MAAC.tv. Prior to first serve, Fairfield will honor its senior class of Moyer and Romansky.
