NIAGARA UNIVERSTY, N.Y. - The Fairfield University volleyball team moved one step closer to a berth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship this afternoon by knocking off Niagara University 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-17). Fairfield improves to 16-12 overall and 13-4 in league play.
Redshirt senior
Carsen Mata posted 14 digs, including the 1,000th of her career to become the 13th Stag in program history and the second one this season to reach the milestone. She entered the match with 989 digs to her credit and now has 1,003. Mata has posted 429 of those digs this season, the tenth-highest single season total in program history.
Senior
Hayley Moyer had 11 kills, including the 700th of her career, on .588 hitting with two total blocks. Junior
Marilyn Peizer posted 10 kills to extend her double-digit streak to 13 matches. Junior
Caitlin Stapleton added nine kills and four total blocks.

Rachel Romansky had nine digs and 36 assists. Junior

Camille Coffey had six digs to bring her career total to 700.
The Stags posted 44 kills on .220 hitting and 45 digs while holding Niagara to 22 kills, a .000 attack percentage, and 36 digs. Fairfield out-blocked Niagara, 7-6, while the Purple Eagles had a 5-3 advantage in aces.
Fairfield closes out the regular season tomorrow, November 17, at Canisius College at 1pm. The 2013 MAAC Championships will be held November 23-24 in Loudonville, N.Y.
