The Fairfield University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) host Monmouth University Saturday night in West Long Branch, N.J. The loss drops the Stags to 6-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in league play, while the Hawks improve to 10-1-0 on the year and 4-0-0 in conference action.
Monmouth struck first when Alexis McTamney knocked the ball into net from 20-yards out in the 28th minute. That would be the score in the 56th minute when a Fairfield foul in the box resulted in a PK that Alexa Freguletti converted for a 2-0 advantage.
Kathleen Early made two stops in playing the full 90 minutes in goal for the Stags. Ashley Lewis made three saves in earning the win for the Hawks. Monmouth outshot Fairfield 9-7 with both teams putting four shots on goal. The Stags had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Monmouth was offsides twice, Fairfield once, and the Hawks committed four additional fouls, 9-5.
The Stags return to action on Wednesday, October 9th when they host Manhattan College at 7 p.m. on Lessing Field.
