Hillary Fitts scored two goals.
Scoring got off to an early start when Vermont's Colleen Slaughter scored on a breakaway at 11:42 into the first half. About a minute later,
Shealyn Testa put the Stags on the board when she netted a shot to the upper corner of the goal from the top of the circle. The Catamounts took the lead, 2-1, when Molly Higgins scored off a penalty stroke at 14:01. Fairfield tied the game, 2-2, when Fitts scored her first goal of the game off a pass across the circle from
Nikki McLucas. Freshman
Julie de Paeuw gave the Stags a lead at 32:36, when she netted a goal at the far post off a pass from Testa. The last goal of the half was scored by
Christy Starsinic off a penalty corner with no time remaining, which gave the Stags a 4-2 advantage heading into halftime.
The Stags continued to dominate play in the second half. Fitts scored her second goal of the game off a rebound at 39:31. The final goal was netted by
Felicitas Heinen at 65:30, providing a 6-2 final score. The goal was scored off a penalty stroke after Vermont was called for an illegal block on the goal line.
Goalkeeper
Caitlin Bennett faced two shots on the day, while Vermont's goalkeepers Stephanie Zygmunt had six saves and Emily Snowden tallied 7 saves. The Stags out-shot the Catamounts 27-5 and had a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Fairfield (9-2) will continue play on the road, stopping at Harvard on October 13, before returning home to host conference foe Maine on October 19 at 1pm.
