Women's Soccer Drop 1-0 Overtime Decision At Rider

The Fairfield University women's soccer team saw its five-game win streak come to an end with a 1-0 overtime loss at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Rider University this afternoon. The loss drops the Stags to 11-6-1 overall and 7-2-1 in league play, while the Broncs improve to 8-7-1 on the season and 5-4-1 in MAAC action.

The Stags controlled play throughout the contest, outshooting Rider 23-9 for the game and with a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. Rider scored the decisive tally 8:29 into the first overtime period when Priscilla Santos knocked in a corner kick.

Kathleen Early (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made five saves in playing every minute for the Stags. Vanessa Perdomo earned the win in net for Rider, playing the 53:29 after halftime and making six saves. Bethany May-Howard started the game and made five saves in the first-half for the Broncs.

The Stags had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks on the game, but were called offsides on three occasions. Rider committed more fouls, 17-10, and were not offsides during the game.

Fairfield is the second-seed at the upcoming MAAC Championship, October 31-November 4 at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. The Stags, who earned a quarterfinal bye, will open action on Friday at 11:15 a.m. versus the winner of the game between seventh-seeded Quinnipiac University and the number-10 seed, Manhattan College, which will be played Thursday at 12:30.
