FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Junior Marilyn Peizer recorded her second career double-double to help the Fairfield University volleyball team win their eighth-straight in a 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-19) victory over Quinnipiac University at Alumni Hall. The Stags improve to 9-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and 11-11 overall.
Peizer, who has posted double-digit kills in seven-straight matches, tallied a career-high 19 kills on .372 hitting along with 10 digs. Junior Caitlin Stapleton added 10 kills on .304 hitting and two total blocks.
Senior Hayley Moyer had nine kills and .389 and five total blocks, including the 200th block assist of her career, and moved into eighth all-time at Fairfield with 202 block assists.
Red-shirt senior Carsen Mata had 16 digs, including the 900th of her career, while junior Camille Coffey tied a season-high with 14 digs.
Fairfield was cruising along in the first set, taking a 19-13 advantage on a kill by Peizer. Quinnipiac (4-20; 2-9 MAAC) countered with a 6-1 run to pull within 20-19 and later took a 22-21 lead on an ace by Jamie Paolucci. Moyer tied it up with a kill while back-to-back kills by Peizer set up game-point. Quinnipiac was able to hold off set point and tie the game, 24-24, on an ace. The Bobcats took a 25-24 lead on a kill by Allison Leigh but Peizer returned the lead to the Stags with back-to-back kills. An attack error by Quinnipiac sent Fairfield off with the 27-25 victory.
With the momentum back in their favor, the Stags dominated the second and third sets winning them both by a margin of 25-19.
Fairfield recorded 49 kills on the day and held Quinnipiac to 20 kills on .112 hitting. Blocks were even at seven apiece. Leigh had 10 kills on .600 hitting for the Bobcats.
Fairfield hosts Sacred Heart on October 30 at Alumni Hall for its final non-league match of the year. The Stags take MAAC play on the road next weekend, stopping at Saint Peter's on November 2 and Rider on November 3.
