JERSEY CITY, N.J. –  Desmond Wade posted 12 points and 10 rebounds while
Amadou Sidibe recorded 10 points and nine rebounds to lead the Fairfield University men's basketball to a 61-54 win over Saint Peter's University. Both student-athletes were instrumental down the stretch for the Stags, staving off a late Peacocks rally. The win also represented the 100th career victory for Head Coach Sydney Johnson, winning 66 at Princeton University and 34 at Fairfield University.

Fairfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the advantage was short lived because the home team answered with eight straight points to double up the Stags at 8-4. Needham stopped the streak with his first points of the game, a jumper from 18 feet away making it 8-6 with 12:44 on the clock.

The Peacocks put four points of their own on the scoreboard to regain their six-point edge. Maurice Barrow entered the game at that point and provided an offensive spark that would ignite an 11-2 spurt that would give Fairfield a 17-14 advantage with 7:46 left in the half. Barrow scored six of those points while Needham added his first three pointer during that run.

Fairfield would not lose the lead for the rest of the half, although the Peacocks closed to within a point at 21-20 after a free throw by Yvon Raymond. Needham answered with another basket to push it to 23-20 at the 2:36 mark. Fairfield would head into the locker room ahead at 28-24. Needham led all first-half scorers with 10 points while Barrow finished the half with eight points off the bench.

The teams traded baskets in the opening two minutes before the three pointer came into play. Needham netted a three pointer which Blaise Ffrench quickly erased with his own long-range jumper. Mikulic connected on his first three pointer before Raymond's three-point play negated it. All in all, the margin remained at four points after all that offense with the score standing at 36-32 with 15:34 remaining.

Fairfield slowly built its lead to 11 points over the next eight minutes, outscoring the Peacocks by an 13-6 count to take a double-digit at 49-38 with 7:26 remaining. Desmond Wade played a role in the run with seven points that included an acrobatic running one-hander which he followed with a duck-and-shoot three pointer that found the target.

The lead peaked at 12 points after Wade made a free throw to make the score 56-44. Saint Peter's scored the next eight points to pull within four points at 56-52 with 1:18 remaining with Raymond scoring five points and Desi Washington hitting a three pointer. Amadou Sidibe made four free throws over the final 28 seconds to ice the game.

Needham led all Fairfield scorers with 19 points while Barrow also reached double figures with 10 points. Raymond was the top scorer for Saint Peter's with 19 points.
