Student-Athlete Show Set For Saturday Night At Alu

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield University student-athletes will showcase their talents outside the realm of competition on January 26 when they host their third annual talent show. The event has become one of the highlights of the Fairfield University athletics calendar as fans and friends can see what the Stags can do when the whistles and buzzers stop and the music starts.

All 20 varsity programs will be putting on an act, or helping with set-up and concessions as the student-athletes will have five minutes to show the crowd their talent. "It will be an exciting event for the teams to show their creative side in a fun competition. The event is another way for the student-athletes to come together as a group, instead of 20 different teams,” said Senior Associate Director of Athletics and SAAC Advisor Alison Sexton.

Each year, the Stags raise money for a local family with a child in need of medical assistance. This year, Finnegan and his family will join the Fairfield University student-athletes at Alumni Hall. Finnegan was born in September, 2011 and was diagnosed with Mic-Cap Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, soon after his birth. He is only the 10th case in the world to have this diagnosis.

Admission to the event is $3 with the proceeds going to Finn and his family. Plus, the student-athletes will hold a 50/50 raffle and also auction off a very valuable prize; at least it has great value to the athletes. The auction winner will receive a certificate which can be redeemed for one day off from strength and conditioning training which is always under the watchful eye of Coach Mark Spellman. Or, the winner can forego the day off and give an extra day of strength and conditioning training to the student-athlete of their choice.

Stop by Alumni Hall on January 26 and see the student-athletes let loose for one night while helping out Finnegan and his family. See you there.
