Four Stags scored in double figures as the Fairfield University women's basketball team downed Manhattan College 76-50 this afternoon at Alumni Hall. It was the Stags' fourth-straight win as they improve to 5-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and to 11-6 overall.
Junior
Katie Cizynski scored in double figures for the eighth-straight game, tying a career-high with 19 points. She also had four boards and four assists while shooting 8-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line.
Junior
Brittany Obi-Tabot notched double figures for the fifth-straight game, tallying 20 points and nine rebounds just missing a double-double. She went 8-for-9 from the floor. It was Obi-Tabot's third 20-point game in her last five games.
Senior
Katelyn Linney posted 12 points, all on three-pointers, and grabbed four rebounds while junior
Alexys Vazquez had 11 points and five boards.
Sophomore
Felicia DaCruz dished out a career-high 10 assists while senior
Brittany MacFarlane netted eight points and five rebounds. Rookies
Kristin Schatzlein and
Christa Scognamiglio also got in on the scoring action.
Fairfield took advantage of hot three-point shooting by Linney and Vazquez at the start of the first half and built a 25-13 lead. Manhattan, meanwhile, went scoreless for a 4:40 span until Toni-Ann Lawrence hit a jumper at 6:06 to stop Fairfield's 8-0 run. Manhattan cut the deficit to 32-24 on a lay-up by Lawrence with just under two minutes left in the half. Vazquez countered with a lay-up of her own to return the lead to double digits. Fairfield took a 36-26 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Jaspers used a 10-5 run over a 2:20 span to pull within 47-40 with just over 14 minutes left in the game. It was as close as the Jaspers would get as the Stags used a 23-2 run to end the game.
Fairfield returns to action on Friday, January 25 when it closes out the season series with Siena College at 7pm in Alumni Hall.
