FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University volleyball team opened action at Alumni Hall with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-19) victory over Quinnipiac University this evening. The Stags delivered 12 aces on the night with senior
Kara Reis and junior
Rachel Romansky recording four apiece.
Reis added 14 digs and three assists while Romansky chipped in with 30 assists, nine digs, and two kills in addition to her career-high four aces. The Stags' 12 aces are the most since 2009 when they had a dozen against Rider University.
Senior
Brianna Dixion notched six kills bringing her career total to 991. She is nine kills away from becoming the 11th Stag in program history to post 1,000 career kills.
Freshman
Nicole Marzik, the two-time reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, posted a match-high nine kills on .368 hitting and seven digs. Junior
Hayley Moyer registered eight kills on .545 hitting, five digs, and two total blocks.
Sophomore
Marilyn Peizer notched five kills and tied career highs with five digs and two total blocks. Sophomore
Camille Coffey converted four of her five errorless swings for kills while classmate
Lindsay Weaver had three kills. Freshman
Maddie FitzPatrick recorded a kill, a block, and a dig.
Defensively, sophomore
Carsen Mata notched six digs while
Stephanie Cruz had two digs.
The Stags are now 15-3 in home openers since 1995 and have won three straight. Fairfield has won eight consecutive home matches dating back to last season and is 56-7 in Alumni Hall since 2006.
Fairfield (2-5) returns to action on September 7 when it heads across town for the Sacred Heart Hampton Inn Shelton Invitational. The Stags will face Dartmouth at 4:30pm on Friday followed by Saturday matches against Central Florida at 10am and Sacred Heart at 5pm.a
