LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Fairfield University volleyball team downed Rider University 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-20) this afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Senior
Brianna Dixion paced the Stags with a match-high 18 kills while sophomore
Caitlin Stapleton had 13 kills.
Dixion hit .500 on the day and was errorless in 36 attempts and added three digs and a block. Junior
Rachel Romansky registered her eighth double-double of the season with a 38 assists and a season-high 18 digs. Junior
Hayley Moyer added eight kills.

Kara Reis inched closer to Fairfield's career digs record finishing the day with 16 digs. Reis has 1,638 digs to her credit and is 36 away from Lindsey Lee's program record of 1,674 set in 2007.
In the first set, Rider (6-8; 0-5 MAAC) climbed back from an early four-point deficit to overtake the Stags, 17-16, on a kill by Megan Knott. Moyer tied it with a kill while back-to-back kills by Dixion tipped the momentum Fairfield's way. The Broncs chipped away at the lead once more and tied the frame at 23-23, but the Stags were able to hang on for the victory.
Fairfield (9-7; 4-2 MAAC) trailed early in the second set, falling behind 11-8. That's when Dixion took over, smacking down six of the next seven kills by Fairfield while adding a block in that span to put the Stags on top 18-11. Fairfield never looked back, cruising to a 25-14 win.
The two teams went back-and-forth in the third set. With the score tied at 17-17, sophomore
Camille Coffey came up with a huge kill to put Fairfield ahead by a point. The Stags continued to roll, closing out the set on an 8-3 run en route to the 25-20 victory.
Coffey added 12 digs on the day while freshman
Nicole Marzik tallied 10 digs.
Fairfield closes out its MAAC road swing and the month of September tomorrow with a stop at Loyola University Maryland. The Stags return to Alumni Hall on October 6 with a 2pm contest against Siena College.
