ANN ARBOR, Mich. –
The No. 23 Fairfield University field hockey team won its fifth-straight contest by blanking Saint Louis University, 1-0, this afternoon at Phyllis Ocker Field on the campus of the University of Michigan. With the victory, the Stags improve to 5-2 on the year.

The Fairfield defense clamped down on Saint Louis in the first half, holding the Billikens to just one shot. The game was scoreless until the 20:57 mark when junior Nikki McLucas broke the deadlock by stuffing home a pass from rookie Kaitlyn Taddeo. The Stags touted a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Fairfield was held off the board in the second half despite six shots and five penalty corners. Saint Louis (0-8) had some chances to tie to the contest in the final eight minutes, but Maddy Sposito came through with three huge saves to preserve the shutout. It was the second shutout of the season for Sposito and the Stags.

The Stags out-shot the Billikens, 12-6, and held a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners. Saint Louis goalie Megan Brady-Depew made four saves on the day while Sposito finished with three.
